Hospitals Asking Vendors to Cut Pricing by 20%

In a recent article it was reported that The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is asking hundreds of its largest vendors to give a 20 percent discount. Based upon the overall tone, the health system feels that this is a necessity due to the changing climate and the increasing demand placed upon many healthcare institutions by the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).

While patient care is important, the question is always raised at what cost? Many companies large and small have absorbed tremendous operating increases due to the federal governments initiation of the medical device excise tax, which require manufacturers and vendors to pay specific taxes on particular devices regardless of use and description. The bottom line is many companies do not have this type of cut to offer.
